Meet our nurse practitioners
Renata Chatman, MSN, RN, WHNP-BC
Renata Chatman is a native of Jackson, MS. She has worked in the healthcare industry for over ten years. She attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham and obtained her master’s in nursing. Renata has been a women’s Health Nurse Practitioner for 3 years and a Registered Nurse for 6 years. She currently resides in Gluckstadt, MS with her husband and daughter.
Renata is employed with Converge: Partners in Access as the Title X Medical Director for Mississippi and an Adjunct Nursing Instructor with Holmes Community College. She is
currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Nursing program at the University of South Alabama.
LaDaryl Watkins, MPH,MSN, RN, FNP-C
LaDaryl Watkins, MSN, MPH, FNP-C, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a
particular interest in the care of the adolescent and young adult populations. She has dedicated over ten years of her career to intersecting nursing and public health principles to cultivate a culture of health for Mississippians. LaDaryl completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She then continued her studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she obtained her Master of Science in Nursing. Her practice areas include primary care, sexual and reproductive, and adolescent health. She is passionate about amplifying the voices of populations and communities and engaging them in solutions to improve the systems that hinder their health and healthcare access.
LaDaryl is a Ph.D. in Nursing student and Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing. In these roles, she is a champion for intersecting research and practice. Her research interests include exploring the young adult perspective regarding their health and well-being and improving the quality of care and health outcomes for this population through innovative and emerging methodologies. In her limited free time, she enjoys binge-watching television shows and discussing pop culture with anyone who will listen.
Kayla Carr, BSN,MSN,FNP-C
Kayla Carr, Ph.D.. RN, FNP-C is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the
American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She has practiced most of her nursing career in women’s health and school-based health. Kayla has a special focus on caring for adolescents and young adults and frequently presents, publishes, and teaches on the subject in her role as a Professor of Nursing. Kayla has held leadership positions in both practice and higher education and enjoys working with patients to address the health issues that are most important to them.
She hopes to spend her career making healthcare easier to access and instilling in future nurses a respect for the dignity of all people. Kayla enjoys singing, learning new things, and spending time with her family.
April Carter, BSN, MSN, FNP-C
April Carter has been in the healthcare field for 16 years and providing care as a Nurse Practitioner for the past 6 years. She received her LPN and RN Associates Degree from Hinds Community College. She then attended Chamberlin College to obtain her Bachelors and Masters Degrees. April believes in caring for patients in a holistic approach. Her journey in the healthcare world has afforded her the privilege of taking care of patients from the infancy stage to the elderly stages of life. With those experiences, she was able to combine all of her knowledge learned throughout the years and apply it to the Family Medicine specialty. She also enjoys helping women as a Certified Doula during labor and assisting helping new moms transition into the role of Motherhood.
Kristie Anderson, PHD-C, CFNP, MSN, BSN, RN, LNC
Kristie L. Anderson is a native of Louisville, MS but currently resides in Madison, MS. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from MS University for Women in May 2011. She continued to excel in the nursing field by receiving 2 Master’s Degrees in Nursing: Master of Science in Nursing Education and Post Masters in Family Nurse Practitioner, both from Alcorn State University. She currently is a full-time student at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. Kristie successfully passed her comps exams in March 2021 and is now a PhD candidate with her dissertation focused on “Combating the HIV Epidemic through Preventative Care: PREP”. Kristie has 13 years of experience as a nurse.
She is currently employed by Open Arms Healthcare in Jackson, MS as a Family Nurse
Practitioner and provides primary care services that enhance your quality of access to care when you are sick with common problems and chronic care issues. She enjoys meeting new patients and providing a culture of wellness to everyone.
